Goals

We pursue a variety of different goals.

  • We are committed to ensuring that shoes are designed and manufactured in such a way that they can be repaired: Right from the design stage, repair and retreading options need to be considered. We work with designers to incorporate the know-how and needs of shoe repairers into the design process.
  • Shoes need to be labeled in a way that shows at the point of purchase how durable the shoe is, and whether the shoes can be repaired and how the buyer can easily arrange for a shoe repair.
  • We are bringing together shoe manufacturers and the shoemakers in Germany to make more repairs possible and to make it easier for customers to take shoes in for repair.
  • Shoemakers and ways to repair shoes should be easy to find. And so that the repair is worthwhile for the shoemaker and they also have to be able to make a good living from their work, we are looking for strategies that make the repair easier and more rewarding.
  • We want to advise policy makers and provide guidance on how shoe repair can also be promoted through government action (national and EU-wide): Economic incentives, standards, qualification and eco-design guidelines are important starting points here.
  • We are developing information materials and communication tools to convince the world that there are alternatives to throwing away and that caring for, repairing and retreading shoes makes our world a better place.

  • We want to help repair initiatives expand their services to include shoe repair, and provide information on what shoe repair and shoe care activities anyone can do themselves.
